" MENDES is Brazilean but lives and works in Antwerp. Although he started out as a painter, he has developed a personal style which is no longer related to only painting. Recent works show how he moves from an elegant style that makes the canvas bath in rich colours and motifs, to conceptual, narrative works. While moving away from a style that is more easily accepted by the public, he takes the risk creating how he feels he should. Involving new media. Exploring how a flat painting can be extended in space by using “objets trouvés”.
