In her oil paintings, Gerdi Beks uses figures, often houses, as a catalyser of atmosphere and emotion. Beks uses the theme of housing as a metaphor. What is our house? Our body, our house, our city? And is our true identity concealed behind façades? She allows chance to play a role in her works and this favours their spontaneity The direction is clear, but the conclusion is always new and surprising.
Beks uses oil paint and lacquer on linen or oil paint alternated with grease pencil on board. This method of working gives her work a unique character. Her use of colour is very intense.
Gerdi Beks studied at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam and at the Art&Design Academy in Exeter (GB). In 1999 her work was selected for the International Art Exchange Programme. Exhibitions: The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Great Brittain.
