A short extract of Nino Barbagallo’s life
He was born on the bottom of the volcano Etna in the beautiful city of Catania on Sicily Island in 1936.
There he grew up with eight sisters and brothers. Many times they only had home-baked bread and local fruit on their table. Even despite those circumstances they had a happy childhood and survived even World War II..
As a little boy he was already a talented craftsman who built little radios and model airplanes. For his schoolmates he also made wooden toys.
At the age of eight he had to help his father at the family-owned art-furniture factory. Almost every afternoon he learned the skills you need to have for wood-carving and the restoring of old furniture. Wood as a natural material became his favorite subject to work with. In his years as a teenager it was his desire to become an Alitalia pilot. Unfortunately this dream didn’t come true. After his studies he left university with a diploma as an engineer for electronics. For more than six years he was employed as head of department in a company in Catania.
After moving to Germany in 1981 he was more than another 20 years involved in the daily working process. During that time he became a specialist in all aspects of computer technology and programs. The remaining part of his leisure time after retiring gets filled by activities like painting (oil- and watercolors), turning and also silk painting. He is a real all rounder.
