"The roots of her homeland are in her painting. A strong, indissoluble, ancestral embrace. The origins are prominent, both in the drawing and in the colours. The force of life transmitted by persuasive, intense, sophisticated images. Watering the path of life of peoples, so different and yet so similar and travelling along it with love, in an attempt to unite it. The union of peoples with a universal thread: painting – in the prince of its techniques: oil on canvas. The pride of attempting to contribute to contact and brotherhood with ones own emotions. The language of works of art: life at the centre of the universe. The artist is man and as such favoured by God: he becomes a messenger and an instrument like an initiate, a chosen one".
Toni La Spina

Toni La Spina

ART PHILOSOPHY
"The verb that better expresses our way to make art is: to recover!
To recover doesn’t mean recycle, but to take out from the great casket of tradition and reading it again through the eyes of the contemporary age. This way we are able to propose, again, a personal style, representing our way of being.
Our purpose is an attempt to communicate and revive myths and tales, histories and legends through symbols, an ancient instrument perfectly efficient that takes the freedom of talking to people who want to hear it, exciting interest and investigation to whom is willing to understand it."
Estér Foglia and Maria Brunereau

Daughter of a French man and a Mexican woman, Maria Brunereau was born in Queretaro, Mexico. After finishing a bachelors degree in Marketing at the Instituto de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, in Mexico City, Brunereau took several painting courses, becoming an outstanding student of Esperanza Vergara.

From 2002 to 2006 she has attended several courses in Milan, where she currently resides, perfecting different techniques and having several personal and collective presentations. Some of her resent presentations have been around Europe and Mexico, getting several awards and recognitions, such as the Thematic Special Award at the Spring Contest 2004/2007, a 3rd prize at the International Graphic and Painting Contest, organized by the Eustachi Gallery of Milan as well as the Florence Grand Prize L. Ghiberti 2005, to the great European Artists of the Contemporary Era. She has received the pope’s blessing for artists on parchment and recently designated member of the Accademia Internazionale Greci Marino.

Some critics such as V. Cracas, Estér, F.S. Caleffi, I.Convertino, Emilio Bianchi, S. Perdicaro and many others, have published articles about her in Corriere della Sera, Diario de Morelos, L’Ottagono, L’Elite, For Young Magazine, Firenze Metropoli etc. and has been interviewed in Tv7 Lombardia. Brunereau’s artwork is present in Italian, French, Spanish, Mexican and US collections.

"The artwork of Maria Brunereau is the result of strong motivation and creativity, which emerge from non-stop inspiration, firmly rooted in her past. Her images are direct reflects for her passion to beauty, the mystery for life and the avalanche of emotions that link myth with reality. Having the ability to pick all kinds of experience with sensibility, she transmits immense vitality of expression in her paintings. Her artwork is full of metaphorical figures marked by explosions of light that sometimes represent pre-columbine and other traditions, presenting actual problems or motives from our culture.

With extraordinary beauty, the painting Tonatiuh (God of the Sun in the Aztec Mythology) shines for its strong composition and intelligent graphic and lighting structure. Other of her important artwork such as Terra (Earth), Vulcano (Volcano) and Sensualidad (Sensuality), mark visually efficient rhythm and color contrast, emotion and symbolism.

Maria Brunereau converts her vision in fantastic atmospheres, wisely summarizing the sensorial data, the fantasy and real, giving to her compositions a dynamic rhythm, thanks to her ability to create and select the exact color tones and lights that adapt to a certain situation.

Her artwork transports us directly to the interior energy feeding her work with psychological, spiritual, and creative exploration based on an internal force that emerges from her human, artistic and passionate values."
